Jackson Walker Emerging Company Program

The Jackson Walker Emerging Company Program allows entrepreneurs an opportunity to work with skilled attorneys who have spent their careers supporting their clients' growth and similarly situated entrepreneurs. The JW Team focuses on serving the legal needs of start-up companies in every industry.

We will be a resource for your leadership. We will be with you each step of the way from the seed of the idea to a fully funded operational organization.

The Program

The idea for the JW Emerging Company Program began with a common realization of our lawyers: many of us have seen companies that had great business ideas and potential but had faltered because of a critical error in their legal representation prior to JW's involvement. These problems run the gamut from flaws in organizational documents, to failure to secure intellectual property rights, to violations of federal securities laws. This "a-ha" moment among our lawyers resulted in the creation of the JW Emerging Company Program.

All law firms can offer you forms. For Jackson Walker, that is only part of the process. We will become your trusted advisor and guide you through the start-up process on a predictable fixed fee basis, leveraging our experience working with startups just like your new venture.

Why JW?

Jackson Walker focuses on bringing a multi-faceted team to work with our start-up company clients and their investors. We find that clients in high-growth, emerging industries need lawyers experienced in corporate, securities, commercialization, joint venturing, intellectual property protection for technological advancements, and employment and compensation issues, particularly when their focus is information technology, life sciences, nanotech and materials science or renewable energy. We counsel entrepreneurs, early stage and emerging growth companies, as well as investors in those companies, focusing on the collaborative approach necessary for success. Jackson Walker takes pride in our practical, businesslike approach to advising our clients, which is rooted in the entrepreneurial spirit and drive that is fundamental to our firm's culture. Our focus on our clients has led to honors such as being listed on BTI's Honor Rolls of "Best Performing Law Firms" and "Law Firms Best at Client Service." In addition, Corporate Counsel magazine recently selected Jackson Walker as a "Go-To Law Firm for Technology Companies" in the areas of Intellectual Property and Litigation.

What We Do

For decades, Jackson Walker has provided experienced and knowledgeable counsel to technology and non-technology companies at every stage of development and from initial formation through initial and mid-stream financing, mergers and acquisitions, public offerings, and beyond.

Over the last ten years, we have helped our clients raise billions of dollars in financing. In this year alone, we have worked closely with clients to help them raise more than half a billion dollars. Our deep understanding of the venture financing and private and public equity markets helps to ensure that our clients' transactions are structured in the most advantageous way in light of then-current market terms. It also means that we can assist our clients in closing their fund raising quickly and in a cost-effective manner. We typically assist our emerging technology clients with:

  • Ongoing, post-transaction coordination

Additionally, our start-up clients benefit from our experience in investor representation because we can advise them on how to position themselves to attract investor interest.
