Susan Halsey Takes Reins, Discusses Goals as Fort Worth Chamber Chairman

Jackson Walker partner Susan Halsey officially accepted her position as Chairman of the Fort Worth Chamber of Commerce at the chamber's annual meeting on June 14, 2013, and was featured in news articles by several publications, including the Fort Worth Star-Telegram, Fort Worth Business Press, and theFort Worth ChamberLetter.

In these articles, Ms. Halsey discussed her longtime commitment to the Fort Worth community, which includes previous involvement with the chamber and a founding leadership role with the Greater Fort Worth Real Estate Council. She also discussed the goals she hopes to accomplish during her tenure as chairman, which include a focus on transportation issues and improving educational opportunities.

"Aligning education with workforce demands will be my top priority," Ms. Halsey told the Fort Worth ChamberLetter. "Communication between the business community and educators is critical to ensure that schools are graduating students with the skills needed for our local economy. The Chamber is uniquely positioned to broker value-added relationships between education and business."

In her interview with the Fort Worth Business Press, Ms. Halsey expressed optimism about the city's future and enthusiasm about the chamber's role in economic development. "If I had to sum up what I think is Fort Worth's best advantage, it?s that it has big-city advantages with small-town culture," she said. "We bridge the gap of small-town feel and urban experience."

Ms. Halsey is the second woman to serve as board chairman in the Fort Worth Chamber of Commerce's 131-year history. She is also the second Jackson Walker partner to lead the organization after Albon Head served as chairman in 2005.

Ms. Halsey is a partner with over 25 years of experience in the Real Estate section of Jackson Walker in Fort Worth. Her practice consists of representing entities, individuals, and financial institutions in various real estate transactions and financial matters including the acquisition, development, and sale of commercial, industrial, and residential real estate; structuring and negotiating financial relationships on behalf of lenders and borrowers; drafting office building, industrial park, and shopping center leases on behalf of landlords and tenants; advising landlords with respect to property management issues; and drafting restrictive covenants and forming homeowners associations and condominium regimes for commercial and residential developments. Ms. Halsey received her B.S. in Business from Louisiana State University, and her J.D. from the Louisiana State University School of Law.
