Biography
|
Don W. Griffis has practiced for over 26 years in West Texas and, prior to that, served as a law clerk to Honorable Joe E. Estes, United States District Judge, in Dallas. Before going to work for Judge Estes, Mr. Griffis served for three years on active duty as an Officer in the United States Marine Corps. He served in Vietnam as both a Staff Legal Officer and as an Infantry Officer and then was assigned to teach military law at the Marine Corps Basic School, Quantico, Virginia.
Mr. Griffis has extensive personal injury and commercial litigation experience and has appeared in a variety of state and federal courts. His primary areas of interest include personal injury defense, products and premises liability defense, employment litigation, medical and legal malpractice litigation, and general business litigation.

Mr. Griffis is a member of the American College of Trial Lawyers, the American Board of Trial Advocates, the Texas Association of Defense Counsel, the Texas Bar Association, the College of the State Bar of Texas, the Tom Green County Bar Association, and is past chairman of the District 15A-2 Grievance Committee. He is a Life Fellow of the Texas Bar Foundation.

Mr. Griffis has been very active in the San Angelo community throughout his career. Mr. Griffis is past president of the San Angelo Chamber of Commerce; scoutmaster of Troop I, Boy Scouts of America; member of the Board of Directors and past president of the Concho Valley Council of the Boy Scouts of America; director and past president of the San Angelo YMCA; member of the Board and past president of the Alcohol and Drug Abuse Council for the Concho Valley; and senior vestryman and member of the Episcopal Church of the Good Shepherd. He has also served two terms on the San Angelo City Council.

Mr. Griffis was named a "Texas Super Lawyer" in the 2003-2009 issues of Texas Monthly magazine. He is listed in the 2007-2010 editions of The Best Lawyers in America under Alternative Dispute Resolution and Commercial Litigation. In 2009, he was awarded the San Angelo Standard-Times' "Jefferson Award" for his volunteer work and, in the past, has received the San Angelo Chamber of Commerce "Citizen of the Year" and "Civic Leader of the Year" awards.
