Biography
Shannon Zmud Teicher's primary areas of practice are intellectual property law, media law, gaming law, and business litigation.

In the area of intellectual property law, Ms. Teicher handles copyright and patent infringement actions, trade secret misappropriation and theft cases, and unfair competition cases. She also provides guidance on fair use considerations, issues and responds to take down notices, and handles trademark matters before the Trademark Trial and Appeals Board.

Ms. Teicher routinely assists media clients in defending defamation claims, defending subpoenas in both criminal and civil courts, pursuing public records, enforcing open meeting laws, and securing camera access to courtrooms.

In gaming law, Ms. Teicher frequently provides clients guidance relating to regulations at the state and federal level. This often includes advice relating to lotteries, raffles, sweepstakes, drawings, and gambling.

Ms. Teicher also has a wide range of business litigation experience in contractual disputes, ERISA actions, aviation matters, and insurance defense.
Representative Matters
  • Defending national media personality in a lawsuit alleging libel, business disparagement, and other torts in state court. The case was quickly resolved through a successful motion to strike all claims.

  • Defending two regional newspapers, the parent company of the newspapers, and a reporter against claims of libel and intentional infliction of emotional distress in state court. Summary judgment was obtained on all claims.

  • Defending a health care insurer against claims relating to continuation benefits in federal court. Summary judgment was obtained on all claims based on, among other things, ERISA preemption.

  • Defending a national cable programmer against claims of invasion of privacy, negligence, and negligent infliction of emotional distress in state court following the airing of a documentary. Dismissal with prejudice was obtained based on lack of personal jurisdiction.

Memberships
Ms. Teicher is a member of the Dallas Association of Young Lawyers and currently serves as a co-chair on the Environmental Awareness Committee. She is a member of the Dallas Bar Association and serves on the 2009 Media Relations Committee. Ms. Teicher is also a member of the State Bar of Texas, the Texas Young Lawyers Association, the American Bar Association, and the First Amendment and Media Litigation Committee. She is also an Associate in the Patrick E. Higginbotham American Inn of Court.

Involvement
Ms. Teicher volunteers with the Dallas Bar Association's "E-Mentoring Program," which is directed towards encouraging Dallas-area high school students to attend college.

Ms. Teicher was named a "Texas Super Lawyer – Rising Star" by Texas Monthly magazine.

She also taught a CLE on Advertising Law to the Fort Worth Paralegal Association in March 2007 and to the Metroplex Association of Corporate Paralegals in March 2008.
