What is RSS?

The initials stand for Really Simple Syndication, but what you really need to know about RSS is that it auto-delivers news and information to you. With a little up-front setup, you can direct your computer to go online throughout the day and find new stories and files in the feeds you've signed up for. This happens in the background - all you need to do is glance at your RSS reader now and then to see what's new, then click on what you're interested in to read the full story.

What's an RSS reader?

This is the handy computer program that does the work for you. It remembers which feeds you've signed up for, checks them for new content, and displays the latest updates for you to read. Most RSS readers are customizable, so you can display links, headlines, and stories in whatever format you like. Some of them work through your Web browser, and some are stand-alone programs that you can download. Best of all, many of the most commonly used RSS readers are free.

Right-click on any of the options below, then select "Copy Shortcut." This copies the feed's address link. In the RSS reader of your choice, select the available "add feed" or "subscribe" option, then paste in the address link you copied.
