Jackson Walker L.L.P :: Careers
The JW Career: Make it what you want it to be.

Let's face it. Anyone with a good event planner and a budget can pull off the wine-and-dine routine for a summer. And if you're a part of the Jackson Walker summer program, you'll have more than one opportunity to experience hospitality and judge social compatibility.

Jackson Walker has designed a program to enable a summer clerk to experience and accomplish two things: give you the involvement you need with the partners that can jumpstart your career and provide you with a concentrated exposure to one or two practice areas allowing you to demonstrate your legal skills and competencies. You'll have quality time doing real work with the attorneys at Jackson Walker.

PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE
In the office, the summer associates are provided with the greatest exposure possible to the firm's practice. The firm makes an affirmative effort to expose clerks to the variety of projects that lawyers actually do in the course of their practices. A summer associate who expresses an interest in real estate, banking or energy law, for example, may participate in drafting documents necessary to various phases of a transaction and, when possible, will attend and participate in client meetings and closings. Similarly, the corporate section of the firm provides summer associates with an opportunity to participate in a broad spectrum of activities ranging from attending negotiations to drafting documents relating to public and private offerings of securities. Those who express an interest in litigation can anticipate exposure to the courtroom as well as attendance at depositions and participation in other facets of trial and appellate practice.

MOCK TRIAL

Summer associates interested in litigation will have the opportunity to spend one week preparing for and participating in a mock trial. Attorneys with the firm, acting as presiding judges, trim down actual cases that have been tried, or will be tried, to a manageable size for two teams, consisting of two summer associates each, to prepare and try before a jury.

Jackson Walker is dedicated to involvement in our local communities. Our devotion to those in need has resulted in a variety of accolades for the firm. Summer Associates may experience volunteer opportunities at food banks, fund raisers, or tutoring and mentoring programs with local organizations.

AUSTIN
As our state capitol, Austin is rich in cultural, economic and academic diversity. Long famous for its abundant variety of scenery, food and music, Austin is gaining even greater recognition for its rapid growth and business-friendly environment. Dubbed the 'Technology Corridor,' the stretch of I-35 that runs through Austin is home to numerous technology and music production companies. Jackson Walker attorneys have immersed themselves in the community and are involved in a wide variety of organizations, including the Greater Austin Chamber of Commerce, the Lance Armstrong Foundation, the Capital Area Food Bank, Austin Lawyers and Accountants for the Arts, Downtown Austin Alliance, The SemiCycle Foundation, Better Business Bureau, The Hillel Foundation at the University of Texas, and Caritas.

DALLAS / FORT WORTH
Albon Head is the Managing Partner of the Fort Worth office
Outside the office, the clerks are exposed to all aspects of local life. Dallas has created a downtown Arts District anchored by the Dallas Museum of Art and the Morton H. Meyerson Symphony Center. The West End, which has been designated an historical district, and Deep Ellum provide a variety of shops, restaurants and urban nightlife. The Sundance Square historical district and the Stockyards in Fort Worth provide restaurants, nightlife, and retailing. Cultural offerings such as the Kimbell and Amon Carter Museums, the opera, and theaters have earned Fort Worth international acclaim. The Dallas/Fort Worth Metroplex is home to the newly-constructed Ballpark in Arlington, which has drawn praise from baseball traditionalists as well as casual fans. The Dallas/Fort Worth area is gaining national and international prominence in the global economy as evidenced by the number of companies making major corporate relocations to the area. The traditionally strong economic growth of the region is perpetuated by excellent financial opportunities which draw businesses and families from all parts of the country. Dedicated business and local government leadership have been instrumental in making the region both economically and socially progressive.

HOUSTON
Houston is a leader in business, entertainment, the arts, and more. Houston has long been known as a major national and international business center. While the energy industry has been and continues to be a primary element in Houston's economy, the city is also recognized internationally for its contributions to the aerospace industry through the Johnson Space Center and to the practice of medicine through the Texas Medical Center. Houston is also home to one of the nation's major seaports on the Gulf of Mexico and is a financial and engineering business center. In addition, Houston restaurants are considered the best in the country. That could be why Houstonians eat out more than residents of any other U.S. city, according to a recent Zagat Survey. The Theater District, located at the northwest end of downtown Houston is ranked second, only behind New York City, for the number of theater seats in a concentrated downtown area. Houston is one of only five cities in the United States with permanent professional resident companies in all of the major performing arts disciplines of opera, ballet, music, and theater.

SAN ANTONIO
San Antonio and the surrounding area is rich in historical and cultural heritage. The Alamo and San Antonio missions showcase the unique history of San Antonio, while the Riverwalk is a dramatic focal point of downtown, making San Antonio the leading tourist destination in the State of Texas. Although the city's economy has a strong foundation in energy, real estate and finance, it is a leader in the health sciences, telecommunications and international commerce. Our office is conveniently located downtown in the heart of the business community on the beautiful San Antonio Riverwalk. The San Antonio office of Jackson Walker takes pride not only in its dedication to serving the diverse legal needs of its clients, but also in its involvement with the community through active participation in civic and charitable organizations such as the United Way of San Antonio, the Greater San Antonio Chamber of Commerce, the North Chamber of Commerce, the World Affairs Council, St. Mary's Entrepreneurs Forum and the San Antonio Bar Association's Community Justice Program.

SUMMER IN TEXAS
The warm climate of the region allows months of water skiing, sailing, and other water sports on the Gulf or at the many nearby lakes. In recognition of the Texas Rangers' and Houston Astros' need for fans, the firm provides box seat tickets for summer evenings at the ball park. Realizing there is life beyond baseball, the firm also purchases tickets for the local summer musicals and theatrical productions for those interested in more cultural activities.
