On July 1, 2015, Emilio Nicolas was named Chair of the Texas Chapter of the Copyright Society of the USA, as Stacy Allen became Immediate Past-Chair. Emilio is also a Trustee of the Copyright Society of the USA.

Founded in 1953, the Copyright Society of the USA is the preeminent society dedicated to the study of copyright law in the United States. Emilio and Stacy started the Texas Chapter in early 2014, which has since seen rapid growth in membership and audience.

Emilio is a content attorney whose practice includes entertainment, media, and intellectual property litigation and transactional work, with a particular emphasis on copyright, trademark, right of publicity, privacy, and defamation. His experience includes federal and state litigation; copyright and trademark prosecution matters; entertainment, media, IP and privacy agreements and policies; and rights clearances. Emilio received his B.S. in Business Administration (Finance and Marketing concentrations) from Trinity University; his M.S. in Media Management from Syracuse University; and his J.D., magna cum laude, from Syracuse University College of Law. He is consistently named a “Rising Star” by Thomson Reuters; is a Fellow of the Texas Bar Foundation; and serves as Co-Chair of the ABA IP Property Litigation Regional CLE Subcommittee. He is also the Chair-elect of the Texas Chapter of the Copyright Society of the USA, with his term beginning July 1, 2015.

Stacy’s aggressive approach to discovery and trial preparation has resulted in favorable judgments and settlements for a wide array of sophisticated commercial clients. His national practice emphasizes intellectual property litigation (on behalf of both alleged infringers and IP owners), defense of media companies and news organizations against defamation and privacy tort claims, defense of managed care companies in claims arising from complex provider contracts, and other commercial lawsuits and arbitrations alleging breach of contract, unfair trade practices, fraud, and other business torts. His cases often involve claims in the tens of millions of dollars or more and include class actions and federal MDL proceedings. Stacy works closely with clients to identify their business goals and develop strategies aimed at achieving those goals, not merely some abstract litigation “result.” Since most high-exposure cases are now resolved through mediation, Stacy places a priority on developing and exploiting favorable evidence early to create leverage and achieve cost-effective and advantageous settlements. Stacy received his B.A., summa cum laude, from the University of Southern California and his J.D. from Yale Law School.
