Biography

Jacob Arechiga is an associate in the Environmental and Legislative practice group in Jackson Walker’s Austin office. Jacob advises clients in the electric power generation, oil and gas, mining, waste, and renewal energy industries regarding federal and state environmental law compliance.

Jacob provides guidance to companies navigating evolving air, water, waste, and toxics regulations. He is well versed in the challenges facing industrial operations and commercial development, including managing regulatory uncertainty and future compliance burdens. He assists clients in securing requisite environmental permits and proceeding through the administrative hearing and appeal process. Jacob also advises clients conducting internal compliance audits and completing large electric generation facility transactions.

He has experience before the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality, the Public Utility Commission of Texas, the Railroad Commission of Texas, and the Texas State Office of Administrative Hearings.

Jacob received his A.B. degree in Politics from Princeton University, where he also received a Certificate in Environmental Studies. He received his J.D. degree, with honors, from The University of Texas School of Law, where he was a member of the Texas Environmental Law Journal. While in law school, Jacob interned for the Honorable Xavier Rodriguez, United States District Judge for the Western District of Texas.

Advise clients on compliance with existing and new federal and state environmental rules; defend against enforcement actions

Environmental Rulemaking & Litigation:

Prepare comments on behalf of industries impacted by proposed rules; litigate rule challenges through federal court system.

Contested Administrative Hearings:

Litigate administrative hearings before the State Office of Administrative Hearings and state agencies, including the Public Utility Commission of Texas and the Railroad Commission of Texas.
