Byron Egan Featured in Texas Law Magazine for Pioneering Role in Texas Business Court

Jackson Walker partner Byron F. Egan is featured in the Spring 2025 issue of Texas Law Magazine in the article, “Home Court Advantage: New Business Court Ups Texas’ Allure.” The feature highlights Egan’s instrumental role in the creation of the Texas Business Court, a significant development that is poised to elevate Texas’ standing as a premier destination for business and finance.

The article explores the launch of the Texas Business Court in September 2023, a move that marks a major step forward in the state’s legal infrastructure. As Texas continues to emerge as a major hub for commerce, the establishment of this specialized court demonstrates the state’s commitment to supporting its dynamic business community. The new court is specifically designed to handle complex commercial litigation, offering a streamlined process managed by experienced judges from start to finish. The court aims to transform the way business disputes are managed in Texas by reducing delays, restructuring the litigation process, and offering greater legal certainty for companies operating within the state.

The creation of the Texas Business Court is the result of decades of debate and legislative effort. The law that established the court also created a new 15th Court of Appeals dedicated to business-related cases, further strengthening Texas’ legal framework for resolving commercial disputes.

Byron, co-founder of the Texas Business Law Foundation (TBLF), played a pivotal role in the court’s creation. Working alongside Jason Villalba, a Dallas business attorney and member of the Texas House of Representatives, Byron introduced the first bill to establish the court in 2015. The bill was reintroduced in each of the following four legislative sessions, reflecting a process marked by persistence, collaboration, and consensus-building.
