Expert on Unconscious Bias Speaks To Jackson Walker Attorneys

September 20, 2017 | Spotlight

Author and adviser Arin N. Reeves, J.D., Ph.D., visited Jackson Walker to discuss the importance of understanding and living with unconscious bias in today’s society. Dr. Reeves’ talk was based on her recent book “The Next IQ: The Next Level of Intelligence for 21st Century Leaders.”

According to Dr. Reeves, unconscious bias refers to one’s perception of another based on certain attributes. The concepts she discussed apply not only to physical attributes, but also to personality types, skill sets, and workplace roles. She also proposed new ways of thinking for individuals and firms seeking to harness the power of more diverse and inclusive perspectives.

The discussion was organized by Jackson Walker’s Diversity Committee and was attended by attorneys in the firm’s offices in Austin, Fort Worth, Houston, San Angelo, San Antonio, and Texarkana.
