‘San Antonio Business Journal’ to Honor Jay Dewald and Jimmy McDonough With Outstanding Lawyers Awards

Jackson Walker is pleased to announce that Jay Dewald and Jimmy McDonough have been selected by the San Antonio Business Journal to be honored at the Outstanding Lawyers Awards on October 3, 2019.

Launched in 2010, the Outstanding Lawyer Awards recognize attorneys who make a difference in their organizations, the legal profession, and the San Antonio community.

Meet Jay

As Chair of Jackson Walker’s Investigations & White Collar Defense practice, Jay Dewald oversees a powerhouse team that includes a former SEC Division of Enforcement attorney and a former Chief of the Financial Litigation Unit of the United States Attorney’s Office for the Western District of Texas. In his practice, Jay focuses on white collar criminal defense, crisis management, regulatory enforcement, and internal investigations. He joined Jackson Walker in 2017, as a former Deputy Criminal Chief in the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Northern District of Texas in Dallas, where he supervised and prosecuted white collar crime.

Jay is also a prolific writer and sought-after speaker on white collar crime. Since 2018, he has been recognized by Chambers USA: America’s Leading Lawyers for Business in the area of Litigation: White-Collar Crime & Government Investigations – Texas.

In addition to his practice, Jay volunteers his time with the Federal Bar Association, the Texas Alliance for Drug Endangered Children, the Wimberley Institute of Cultures, the North Texas Crime Commission, and the San Antonio Snack Pak 4 Kids organization. He has also volunteered at the Wills for Vets program at the Veterans Affairs Hospital.

Meet Jimmy

James M. McDonough counsels clients on a broad range of projects involving corporate finance, commercial real estate and mortgage lending, including traditional bank commercial loans, publicly and privately placed debt offerings, and syndicated commercial loans; municipal bond transactions; and securitization of financial assets. He is Board Certified in Commercial Real Estate Law by the Texas Board of Legal Specialization.

He has been recognized among Thomson Reuters’ “Super Lawyers” list (2009-2010; 2016-2018); The Best Lawyers in America (2007-2016, 2018) in the area of Real Estate Law; San Antonio Scene’s “Best S.A. Lawyers” (2007-2011; 2017-2019) in the areas of Banking and Real Estate Transactions.

Recently, Jimmy helped advise Whataburger in the sale of a majority interest to a Chicago-based merchant bank and Acelity, Inc. and its KCI subsidiaries in the sale of its business to 3M for approximately $6.725 billion, which was listed among the five largest M&A deals involving Texas companies during the first half of 2019.

Outside of his practice, Jimmy volunteers his time with the Texas Cavaliers. In addition, he coached youth baseball at AHLL and youth soccer at the YMCA, served as President of the Alamo Heights High School Mulepushers, chaired the annual AHHS baseball fundraiser, was a past Director of the Texas Wildlife Association, and participated in MS 150 for the National Multiple Sclerosis Society.
