On Tuesday, Jackson Walker partner Will S. Montgomery gave a keynote presentation at the fifth annual Texas Healthcare & Bioscience Institute (THBI) Summit. As the Presiding Officer of the Cancer Prevention and Research Institute of Texas (CPRIT) Oversight Committee, Will reported on CPRIT’s advances in the fight against cancer and suggested cancer legislative policy issues for consideration by the 86th Texas Legislature that convenes in January 2019.

CPRIT is a state agency that funds cancer research, recruitment of scientists, product development, and prevention programs and services in Texas. The Texas Legislature has tasked CPRIT with expediting innovation in cancer research, expanding research capabilities, and developing and implementing a Texas Cancer Plan. The Oversight Committee is composed of nine Texas citizens appointed by the Governor, the Lieutenant Governor, and the Speaker of the House.

The THBI Summit is a premier healthcare and life science industry policy conference that facilitates discussions on current federal and state issues, such as the opioid epidemic, patient access, and innovation.
