Charles Smith Receives Ethical Life Award

Jackson Walker of counsel Charles Smith recently received the Ethical Life Award given by the South Texas Chapter of the Association of Corporate Counsel.

The Ethical Life Award recognizes attorneys and law firms that demonstrate a strong and clear commitment to ethics in the practice of law. Mr. Smith was the only private practice lawyer chosen to receive this award, which was presented during the Ethics Follies program on September 25, 2014, in San Antonio, Texas. Mr. Smith is the third Jackson Walker attorney to receive the Ethical Life Award in the past four years, joining partner Steve Fogle and late partner Rocky Walker as recent recipients.

A number of attorneys from Jackson Walker and other law offices, as well as long-time clients, nominated Charlie for his strong and clear commitment to ethics and his reputation for integrity, excellence, and successful management of conflicts of interest.

“This prestigious award recognizes what we have all seen and known: that Charlie’s core values include a strong and clear commitment to ethics,” said Patrick Tobin, managing partner of Jackson Walker’s San Antonio office.

Charlie has over 55 years of litigation experience. He has focused primarily on tort litigation in the state and federal courts wherein he has tried over 300 jury cases. Charlie is a Fellow in both the prestigious American College of Trial Lawyers and the International Academy of Trial Lawyers and is an Advocate in the American Board of Trial Advocates. He served as President of the State Bar of Texas and the San Antonio Bar Association, and as Chairman of the Board of Directors of the State Bar of Texas and the Commission on Judicial Conduct and the Commission for Lawyer Discipline. He also served on the State Board of Disciplinary Appeals. He has been involved in state, regional and national legal associations throughout his career. Mr. Smith received his B.A. from Texas A&M University – College Station and his J.D., magna cum laude, from St. Mary’s University School of Law.
