Chip Babcock Named a Trial Ace by ‘Law360’

August 24, 2015 | Attorney News

Jackson Walker partner Chip Babcock was named a Trial Ace by Law360, joining an elite group of only 50 litigators nationwide to receive this honor.

For its inaugural listing, Law360 selected winners based on the number of high-stakes trials they’ve worked on, the role they played at trial and the trial outcome. “The 50 attorneys on Law360‘s Trial Aces list are champions in the courtroom, leaders in their law firms and heroes to their clients. They’re the lawyers to call when losing is not an option,” the publication stated.

Chip Babcock was profiled in an Aug. 19, 2015, article on Law360‘s website. The article discussed some of the highlights of Chip’s distinguished career, during which he has been first chair in more than 100 jury trials. Some of his most high-profile cases include having represented Oprah Winfrey in a suit brought under Texas’ so-called “veggie libel law,” defending Houston television station KTRK and reporter Wayne Dolcefino in a 1996 libel lawsuit that aired live on Court TV, and serving as lead counsel for Dr. Phil in a game-changing case for the broadcast industry regarding the California Retraction Statute against the Kalpoe brothers – onetime suspects in the murder of Natalee Holloway.

“Oprah Winfrey and Dr. Phil don’t come along just every day,” Chip told Law360, adding, “I think that the thing I was very lucky in was that I had great mentors at the firm — older experienced trial lawyers who knew how to try a lawsuit.”

Chip has received numerous accolades during his career. In addition to the most recent recognition by Law360, he was selected as one of the “25 Greatest Texas Lawyers of the Past Quarter-Century” by Texas Lawyer, named a Texas Super Lawyer by Super Lawyersmagazine and listed in Best Lawyers 2015 and Martindale-Hubbard Peer Review Rated Preeminent™. Chip is additionally ranked as a top First Amendment lawyer, commercial litigator, and trial attorney, and one of America’s leading lawyers for business in Chambers & Partners. Over the course of his career, he has represented a myriad of Fortune 500 clients, both as plaintiffs and defendants. Chip earned his A.B. from Brown University and his J.D. from Boston University School of Law.
