Doug Paisley Quoted in Spanish Newspaper “Expansion” on Legal Risks for Foreign Investors

April 8, 2015 | Attorney News

The article, titled "Riesgos legales del inversor extranjero," focused on the challenges that investors often encounter when expanding into new global markets. Globalaw network attorneys from the United States, Europe, Asia, and Africa shared advice on the top legal issues in their respective jurisdictions. Doug explained that one of the first obstacles international investors face in the U.S. is obtaining visas for their employees and family members. Unless the investment is in a U.S. company, or there is some type of treaty between the U.S. and the country of origin, or the visa applicant is able to demonstrate an "extraordinary ability," it can be very difficult to obtain a visa. In some cases, it may only be attainable via the lottery system and the chances of winning are very low. Doug's areas of practice include commercial finance, international transactions, corporate law, and general business law. He has extensive experience in representing non-U.S. companies doing business in the U.S., U.S. companies doing business overseas, and high net worth non-U.S. individuals in a variety of matters concerning foreign and domestic financial, real estate, corporate, tax and commercial issues including international project financings, mergers and acquisitions, sales and distribution arrangements, joint ventures, technology transfers, and licensing and entity formations.
