Dudley McCalla Receives Lifetime Achievement Award

Jackson Walker Of Counsel Dudley McCalla was presented with the first ever Lifetime Achievement Award by the Administrative and Public Law Section of the State Bar of Texas at the 9th Annual Advanced Texas Administrative Law Seminar in Austin, Texas.

The event was held on August 21–22, 2014.

The Lifetime Achievement Award is presented to the lawyer who has made an unrivalled impact and lasting contribution to Texas administrative and public law during his or her career, and who, in doing so, has conducted himself or herself in accordance with our profession’s highest ethical standards and values. Mr. McCalla was unanimously selected by the State Bar of Texas Administrative and Public Law Section Council, comprised of 15 members. The Honorable J. Woodfin “Woodie” Jones of the Third Court of Appeals in Austin, TX presented Mr. McCalla with his award.

Also at the event, Mr. McCalla served as moderator in a panel discussion titled, “Deference to Agency Interpretation of Statutes: Whether, When and How to Give It.” The panel discussed the topic of the Texas Supreme Court declining to formally adopt the federal Chevron deference standard.

Mr. McCalla also delivered a presentation alongside Jackson Walker partner Steve Moore titled, “Taxes in Administrative Law.” The presentation discussed protecting taxpayers’ rights at the agency level and in court.

Mr. McCalla focuses his practice primarily on administrative law, and he is board certified in Administrative Law by the Texas Board of Legal Specialization. Throughout his career, he has had several articles published and has spoken frequently on administrative law. Mr. McCalla was named the 2013 “Lawyer of the Year” by Best Lawyers in the category of Administrative / Regulatory Law (Austin) and is listed in the 2007-2014 editions of The Best Lawyers in America under Administrative/Regulatory Law and Insurance Law. He was named a “Super Lawyer” by Thomson Reuters (2003–2004). In 2002, he was named the “Go to Lawyer in Administrative Law” by Texas Lawyer. Mr. McCalla received his B.B.A. and his LL.B. from the University of Texas, where he was a member of Phi Alpha Delta.
