Jackson Walker attorneys Jonathan Lass, Julia Mann, and Matthew Swantner each co-authored chapters in Essentials of E-Discovery, which was recently published by the State Bar of Texas.

Mr. Lass and Dustin S. Sachs co-authored “Computer Usage Policies, Records Management, and Information Governance,” which covers information governance management issues in the context of electronic discovery, including how document retention policies, records management, and computer usage policies affect a party’s risk management position when dealing with electronic discovery issues.
Ms. Mann and Judge Xavier Rodriquez co-authored “Cost-Shifting,” which discusses mechanisms provided by the Federal Rules and Texas Rules of Civil Procedure that may yield opportunities for parties to shift discovery costs. It also explores recent case law regarding how courts have treated those rules.
Ms. Mann and Mr. Swantner co-authored “Rule 30(b)(6) Depositions,” which explores the implications of Federal Rule of Civil Procedure 30(b)(6) and its state law counterpart, Texas Rule of Civil Procedure 199.2(b)(1) to investigate the nature, existence, custody and location of an entityβs electronically stored information (ESI).
Mr. Lass represents clients on corporate, technology and intellectual property transactions and complex projects. These transactions range from mergers and acquisitions to software licensing to outsourcing deals to data security issues. With both general counsel and law firm experience, Mr. Lass pursues a practical and problem solving approach to effectively achieving his client’s goals. Mr. Lass is a frequent speaker and author of technology law related topics such as e-discovery, data security, cyber security, technology transfer, and intellectual property. Mr. Lass was named a “Rising Star Lawyer in Texas” for 2010, 2011, and 2012 as published by Texas Monthly. Mr. Lass is a Fellow of the Texas Bar Foundation.
Ms. Mann represents a wide range of clients in civil litigation, arbitration and appeals. Her primary focus is on oil and gas litigation, commercial litigation and e-Discovery. Her practice encompasses contractual disputes, professional liability claims, royalty disputes, and business torts such as fraud, negligent misrepresentation, breach of fiduciary duty, tortious interference, and creditors’ rights. She primarily practices before state and federal courts in South Texas and Oklahoma.
Mr. Swantner’s practice focuses on commercial litigation including contract disputes, business torts, creditor’s rights, collection matters, oil and gas disputes, mineral and construction liens, and bankruptcy matters throughout Texas and New Mexico. Mr. Swantner also has extensive experience in post-judgment remedies such as issuing writs of execution and writs of garnishment, abstracting judgments, post-judgment discovery, asset searches, and filing construction and mineral liens.
