Jackson Walker Media Law partners Stacy Allen and Paul Watler testified on behalf of the Texas Association of Broadcasters for and against bills affecting television and radio broadcasters during the recently-concluded 2015 Session of the Texas Legislature.

Included among the bills defeated or amended were those which could have deprived journalists of access to unredacted motor vehicle accident reports, required stations to expunge news stories from their websites, restricted news media use of mugshots, limited the criminal history information on which journalists could report, and restricted photographing police officers in public places.

“It’s often a matter of explaining to committee members how the proposed legislation would have unintended adverse consequences for the news media” said Stacy Allen.

The testimony offered by Jackson Walker lawyers this session continues a long tradition of assisting TAB in its work to advance the interests of Texas broadcasters.
