Kurt Nondorf Participates in Covenant House “Sleep Out” to Support Homeless Youth

November 13, 2014 | Attorney News

Jackson Walker partner Kurt Nondorf is passionate about helping homeless youth – so much so that he is willing to spend a night sleeping on the cold, hard pavement to raise funds and bring awareness to Covenant House Texas’ programs that keep young people off the streets.

Mr. Nondorf currently serves as Chair Elect of the Board of Directors for Covenant House Texas, which provides sanctuary and support for homeless and abandoned youth. For the third consecutive year, Mr. Nondorf will also be participating in the organization’s annual Sleep Out on Nov. 20, 2014. The event kicks off with a candlelight vigil and rally; then, Houston-area business leaders will spend the night meeting with the homeless, hearing the personal stories of Covenant House residents, and sleeping on the ground to support the cause. Last year’s event raised over $300,000 for Covenant House. This year, organizers have set a goal of signing up 75 “Sleepers” and raising $425,000.

“This event is really a great way to heighten awareness of the plight of the homeless while also raising much-needed funds for Covenant House,” said Mr. Nondorf. “It’s all about helping kids who for one reason or another have had a curve ball thrown their way. If you catch a young person at the right time, you can completely change their life.”

Mr. Nondorf is managing partner of Jackson Walker’s Houston office. His legal practice includes over 30 years of experience in real estate transactions law, including the representation of institutional clients in connection with the acquisition, sale, financing, and leasing of raw land, office buildings, apartment complexes, industrial sites, warehouses, and hotels. Mr. Nondorf’s most frequent assignments involve work in the commercial capital and leasing markets, representing buyers and sellers of improved properties and landlords and tenants in commercial leases. In addition to his work with Covenant House, Mr. Nondorf is a member of the Board of Trustees for Houston Christian High School and a member of the Foundation Board of First Methodist Church (where he has held positions of Chair of Finance and Chair of Trustees).
