“Nate St. Clair is a hero of the printing industry and should be applauded as such.”

For his work on behalf of printing industry companies in the fight against patent trolls, Jackson Walker partner Nate St. Clair, II has been named a ‘Printing Industry Hero’ by intellectual property expert Dr. Harvey R. Levenson who is Professor Emeritus and former Department Head of Graphic Communication at Cal Poly State University.

Dr. Levenson bestowed this title upon St. Clair in his whitepaper, “A Case Study of Patent Abuse: Patent Trolls on the Run — The Printing Industry Is Winning.” The work was a follow-up to a previous whitepaper that reviewed three patents that were the basis of multiple lawsuits brought by so-called “patent trolls” CTP Innovations (CTP) and High Quality Printing Innovations (HQPI).

The patents in question covered a broad range of applications and had the potential to affect companies across the printing industry, including Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEMs) and equipment distributors.

St. Clair and a team of Jackson Walker attorneys (including partners John Jackson and Matt Acosta) played a key role in the dismissals of these lawsuits, which affected over 100 defendants altogether. For this work, Dr. Levenson classifies St. Clair as a hero in the printing industry.

“One might consider Nate St. Clair and the Jackson Walker team to be an ‘Elliot Ness’ of the printing industry, fighting to protect the industry from the threats and extortion of patent trolls. As a result of his firm’s efforts, all of the CTP and HQPI suits have been dismissed, and Baker Donelson has withdrawn its representation of the plaintiffs.”
