Port Aransas Boatmen Selects Willie Hornberger as Outside General Counsel and Jackson Walker as Tournament Sponsor for the 83rd Annual Deep Sea Roundup

April 11, 2018 | Attorney News

Port Aransas Boatmen, Inc. (PABA) has selected Dallas partner Willie Hornberger to serve as Outside General Counsel. PABA is a non-profit organization comprised of recreational fisherpersons and charter boat owners and operators dedicated to providing services to the community of Port Aransas, Texas. PABA works to promote boating safety, good sportsmanship, and conservation of natural resources and wildlife, as well as fostering and promoting high standards in the fishing industry. When appropriate, they represent charter boat operators and recreational fisherpersons in legislative and regulatory issues regarding the fishing industry. PABA provides financial support for scholarships, community projects, and youth-related activities. They also host the “Deep Sea Roundup,” the oldest fishing tournament on the Gulf Coast. Jackson Walker is proud to announce they are a Platinum Tournament Sponsor for the 83rd Annual Deep Sea Roundup which will be held July 12-15, 2018.

The Deep Sea Roundup began in 1932 (also the birth year of what is today the PABA) as the Tarpon Roundup. For almost 90 years, Port Aransas fishing and hunting guides have been pitting their skills against one another in what is now the largest family fishing tournament on the Gulf Coast. The Roundup draws over 800 contestants each year and attracts fisherpersons of all ages and skill levels. Contests include Offshore, Bay Surf, Fly Fishing, and Junior Division, plus a free Piggy Perch contest for the little guys and gals.

The havoc wreaked by the 27+ trillion gallons of rain that Hurricane Harvey dumped on Texas last August raised concerns that the Gulf Coast’s oldest fishing tournament might not be held this year. Fortunately, with volunteer help, community fishing spirit, and a bit of juggling, the Deep Sea Roundup will go on with only minor modifications. The monies from the Roundup are used to fund scholarships for community students and support community youth activities.

We are particularly honored to be chosen to represent the legal interests of Port Aransas Boatmen and to sponsor this year’s Deep Sea Roundup. As a Texas-based firm, we know first-hand the devastating impact of Hurricane Harvey. Jackson Walker is committed to the reconstruction and recovery of the Texas communities affected by the 2nd largest natural disaster in U.S. history. PABA is known for the good work they do in service of the Port Aransas community. It is a privilege to be a part of their team and to play a significant role in supporting their community efforts.

You can volunteer or donate to PABA via their website or email info@deepsearoundup.com to receive updates regarding this year’s Deep Sea Roundup.
