On Jan. 11, 2014, Jackson Walker partner Scott M. McElhaney will be officially inaugurated as the 105th President of the Dallas Bar Association.

A Member of the DBA Board of Directors since 2006, Scott previously chaired the DBA’s Equal Access to Justice Campaign, and is a past Chair of the DBA’s Business Litigation Section, Judiciary Committee and Bench-Bar Committee. Scott has also served on the State Bar’s District 6 Grievance Committee as Vice Chair of the Committee for a Qualified Judiciary, and as a Barrister in the Patrick E. Higginbotham Inn of Court.

As trial and appellate counsel for a variety of companies and individuals, Scott works with clients to cost-effectively resolve a range of complex commercial disputes and employment matters. He regularly appears before federal and state courts and arbitrators for trials and hearings, and he has successfully handled multiple class actions at the trial and appellate level. Scott has experience in contract and business tort suits, trade secret litigation, and non-competition agreement injunction proceedings. He represents managed care organizations in a variety of commercial disputes. He is experienced in antitrust matters, and he regularly handles a wide variety of ERISA, employment discrimination and other labor claims.

Scott received his A.B. degree in history, summa cum laude, from Dartmouth College, where he was elected to Phi Beta Kappa. He obtained his J.D. degree, cum laude, from Harvard Law School, where he was Managing Editor of the Harvard Civil Rights-Civil Liberties Law Review. He has been an Instructor at the SMU Dedman School of Law, where he taught Employment Law and Legal Research and Writing. Before beginning his practice, he clerked for Judge Barefoot Sanders of the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Texas and then Judge Irving Goldberg of the U.S. Fifth Circuit Court of Appeals.
