‘The Houston Lawyer’ Profiles Chip Babcock on Professionalism

The most effective advocates are courteous, respectful, ethical, and dependable, Jackson Walker partner Charles L. Babcock shared with The Houston Lawyer in a recent profile.

“Many lawyers think that being discourteous, ethically challenged, and bombastic is part of a lawyer’s DNA. Sadly, a lot of clients are looking for that, too,” Chip pointed out. “Since there is a market for that kind of lawyer, they will likely continue to exist despite all the exhortations to ‘professionalism.’”

“My experience, however, is that the most effective advocates are those that are courteous and respectful to opposing counsel, clients and the court, and ethical,” Chip said.
