For Texas-based law firm Jackson Walker, 2017 was the best year yet for recruitment and gross revenue. As mergers continue on an upward trend and competition for both legal talent and business builds in 2018, the Firm remains rooted in Texas while expanding its comprehensive services to clients around the globe. Managing Partner Wade Cooper shared insights with Law360 and The Texas Lawbook about Jackson Walker’s place in the booming legal market.

As national firms look to expand their operations in Texas, Jackson Walker possesses a niche position as a firm with partners who have experience and skills exclusive to Texas while working within practice groups that are national and international in scope.

“In our view, the market is clearing out the underbrush where we specialize,” Wade told The Texas Lawbook’s Mark Curriden. “Those new firms are going to raise rates and they will have firm leaders in other states that the Texas lawyers never see and that opens the door for firms like ours.”

Rather than establish offices outside of the state, the Firm capitalizes on Texas’ low overhead to keep rates competitive, permit alternative fee structures where appropriate, and still offer attractive compensation packages to recruit and maintain a solid bench of seasoned attorneys.
