presented with federal judges Judge Yeakel, Judge Pitman, and Judge Rodriguez on the topic of “Technology and Intellectual Property Law Issues as Viewed From the Federal Bench” at the University of Texas School of Law’s 30th Annual Technology Law Conference in Austin, Texas on May 25, 2017.
The discussion covered legal issues in technology, intellectual property, trade secret, and eDiscovery from the perspective of three United States federal district judges. The panelists also discussed cases involving technology licensing agreements, trade secret misappropriation, and recent developments in eDiscovery law.
“The presentation gave me a greater understanding of the importance of protecting trade secrets within my business and issues that arise in federal litigation. It was definitely a highlight of the conference,” noted Eric Natinsky, President of Quick Technologies, Inc.
Jonathan served as a panelist alongside Federal Judges Robert L. Pitman, U.S. District Court, Western District of Texas – San Antonio Division, Xavier Rodriguez, U.S. District Court, Western District of Texas – San Antonio Division, and Lee Yeakel, U.S. District Court, Western District of Texas – Austin, Division.

About Jonathan Lass
Jonathan Lass is partner Jackson Walker’s Austin office. He assists clients with technology and corporate transactions, intellectual property protection, and other complex projects. These transactions range from SAAS-based and software licensing transactions, outsourcing transactions, joint venture transactions, mergers and acquisitions deals, to cyber security and data breach projects. Jonathan authored a chapter titled Computer Usage Policies, Records Management, and Information Governance, in the legal textbook Essentials of E-Discovery, which was published by the State Bar of Texas in 2014. Jonathan is currently a lecturer at the McCombs School of Business at the University of Texas where he teaches a Business Law and Ethics course to business majors. He has been a guest lecturer at the Dwight Look College of Engineering at Texas A&M University for a Biomedical Engineering Entrepreneurship course and at St. Mary’s School of Law for an Electronic Discovery course.
