Jackson Walker partner Lionel Schooler continues to serve as a leader in the legal community, taking office as a Director of the Houston Bar Association (HBA) for a two-year term, as well as presiding over the HBA’s Alternative Dispute Resolution Section’s All-Day Seminar.

As Director of the HBA, Lonnie will (among other duties) co-chair the Speakers Bureau Committee which recruits HBA members to speak on various legal topics at schools, service clubs, and other civic organizations on a variety of legal topics. The committee also assists the HBA’s Law Week and Lawyers for Literacy Committees on Constitution Day and Law Week school readings.

While beginning his new role as HBA Director, Lonnie concludes his term as Chair of the HBA’s Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR) Section, a position  he held for the 2016 – 2017 fiscal year. As Chair, Lonnie presided over all of the Section’s monthly programs, particularly its annual All-day Seminar. These programs have aimed to educate legal professionals on mediation, arbitration, and other alternatives to litigation.

At the All-Day Seminar, Lonnie gave a presentation on the latest developments in arbitration, including updates in case law and ethical issues. In the presentation, he discussed recent decisions by the U.S. Supreme Court, the United States Court of Appeals for the Fifth Circuit, the Texas Supreme Court, and the Texas Courts of Appeals.

Lonnie has been involved with the HBA for over forty years, and has held several leadership positions along the way.

In addition to his service to the HBA, Lonnie has also served the State Bar as Chair of its Alternative Dispute Resolution.  Lonnie is also a Supporting Life Fellow of the Texas Bar Foundation.
