The University of Texas at Austin has announced that the fourth annual McDowell Award for Innovation in Undergraduate Studies, named for Jackson Walker attorney Cale McDowell, has been awarded to Jennifer Morgan, senior program coordinator in UT’s School of Undergraduate Studies.

Ms. Morgan was chosen by the selection committee for her work on the curriculum reform initiative championed by UT President Bill Powers. Associate Dean of Undergraduate Studies Larry Abraham presented the award to Ms. Morgan at a ceremony on May 22.

The McDowell Award was established by the Board of Regents of the University of Texas System on February 4, 2010 upon the recommendation of former Dean Paul Woodruff and President Powers. The award honors Mr. McDowell for his work as a member of UT’s Task Force on Curriculum Reform, founder of the School of Undergraduate Studies, and former Deputy to the Dean of Undergraduate Studies. According to the UT press release, Mr. McDowell’s “work with faculty committees, the university’s colleges and schools, and the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board led to the implementation of the new core curriculum for all undergraduate students and the creation of the School of Undergraduate Studies.”

The annual McDowell Award is supported by a permanent endowment created with personal gifts from President Powers, Dean Woodruff, Dean Abraham and numerous members of the faculty and administration of the University of Texas. The recipient of the McDowell Award is selected by a committee of faculty, staff, students, and alumni after a campus-wide nomination process and receives a commemorative plaque and honorarium.
