Jackson Walker Wins Courtroom Victory for Client in Eminent Domain Case
Jackson Walker L.L.P. won a significant jury verdict for its client Lone Star Transmission L.L.C. in an eminent domain case tried before the Bosque County Court at Law on Jan. 23, 2013.
Lone Star Transmission is in the process of building approximately 325 miles of transmission lines to carry wind-generated electricity from West Texas to consumers throughout the state. The transmission line passes through 11 Texas counties, with construction expected to be completed in March 2013.
In the Bosque County case, Lone Star Transmission filed eminent domain proceedings against landowners Ronnie D. Payne and Martha A. Payne after the parties were unable to reach an agreement on the value of the Paynes' property. At the conclusion of a two-day trial, the jury ruled in favor of Jackson Walker's client based on the evidence presented in court.
In a voluntary post-trial interview, members of the jury said they were particularly impressed by the thorough preparation and commanding knowledge of the facts and the law demonstrated by the Jackson Walker trial team.
Jackson Walker attorneys Noah M. Galton and Susan Dillon Ayers represented Lone Star Transmission in the case. Mr. Galton and Ms. Ayers are members of the firm's experienced Eminent Domain practice, which has successfully represented clients in significant proceedings throughout the state.
