Jackson Walker partners Stacy Allen, Bob Latham and Paul Watler attended the Texas Association of Broadcasters’ Awards Gala on August 7, 2014, in Austin, Texas.
The Awards Gala was part of the Texas Association of Broadcaster’s 60th Annual Convention & Trade Show. Four broadcast leaders were honored during the event: Dr. Sam Sauls of the University of North Texas was named Educator of the Year, Tom Ehlmann of KXAS–TV Dallas–Fort Worth was named Broadcaster of the Year, Jack Sellmeyer of Sellmeyer Engineering received the George Marti Award for Engineering Excellence, and Larry Safir of Entravision Communications was named Pioneer of the Year. Jackson Walker was a sponsor of the event.

Mr. Allen’s aggressive approach to discovery and trial preparation has resulted in favorable judgments and settlements for a wide array of sophisticated commercial clients. His national practice emphasizes intellectual property litigation (on behalf of both alleged infringers and IP owners), defense of media companies and news organizations against defamation and privacy tort claims, defense of insurers in class actions and other complex litigation, defense of managed care companies in claims arising from complex provider contracts, and other commercial lawsuits and arbitrations alleging breach of contract, unfair trade practices, fraud, and other business torts. Mr. Allen received his B.A., summa cum laude, from the University of Southern California and his J.D. from Yale Law School.
Mr. Latham has tried significant cases in numerous jurisdictions involving a broad range of subject matter. He has developed nationally recognized expertise in the areas of media law and intellectual property litigation and chairs both practice areas at Jackson Walker. He has been named in The Best Lawyers in America in six different disciplines: First Amendment Law, Litigation (Commercial, First Amendment, Intellectual Property & Patent), and Sports Law. Mr. Latham received his A.B. from Stanford University and his J.D. from the University of Virginia School of Law. He is currently the Chairman of the International Rugby Board Regulations Committee.
Mr. Watler focuses his legal practice on complex commercial and media litigation. He has been named by Texas Lawyer magazine as the “Go To” lawyer for media litigation in Texas, placing him among an elite group of the state’s top 29 lawyers across all practice areas. Mr. Watler has also been listed in The Best Lawyers in America since 1995, has been named one of the 250 Best Lawyers in Dallas by D Magazine; and has been named a “Super Lawyer” by Thomson Reuters annually since 2003. Mr. Watler received his B.J. degree from the University of Texas and his J.D. from the University of Texas School of Law.
