JW and Tribune Company Establish Minority Internship Program For Communications Law

Jackson Walker and the Tribune Company in Chicago are the first to respond to the call from the American Bar Association Forum on Communications Law to establish a model program to increase diversity in the communications bar.

To encourage participation in mentoring programs, the Forum has written to more than 285 communication companies in the U.S. asking them to work with their law firm partners to make special efforts to recruit, retain and promote minority attorneys who work in media law. In response, Jackson Walker and Tribune Company have initiated an internship program to demonstrate their commitment to cultural diversity.

Managing Partner Mike Wilson stated, “Jackson Walker is excited to have helped create the pilot program for the ABA Media diversity initiative. We hope that this effort grows in the coming years and results in an increasingly diverse media bar which will more closely reflect the community the media and its attorneys serve.”

Cedric Scott, an associate in the Litigation practice section of Jackson Walker in Houston, has just completed his internship at the Tribune Company in Chicago. His areas of interest include entertainment and sports law, Internet and E-commerce and media law. Scott is a graduate of Texas Southern University’s Thurgood Marshall School of Law.

The ABA Forum on Communications Law focuses on all aspects of communications law, including newspapers, broadcasting, cable, magazine and book publishing, common carriers and the Internet. The American Bar Association is the largest voluntary professional membership organization in the world.
