October 8, 2014 | Attorney News

Jackson Walker of counsel Kathleen LaValle was named the winner of the Dallas Regional Chamber’s prestigious ATHENA Award during the 19th Annual Women’s Business Conference on Oct. 3, 2014, in Dallas. The award is presented each year to individuals who strive toward the highest levels of professional accomplishment, excel in their chosen field, devote time and energy to their community in a meaningful way, and forge new paths encouraging others to follow.

Ms. LaValle’s career has been marked by excellence in legal practice and a deep commitment to community involvement. She recently transitioned from partner to of counsel at Jackson Walker in order to become the full-time executive director and president of Dallas CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocates). She previously served on the Dallas CASA board of directors for more than a decade, including as board chair in 2006 and as chair of one of CASA’s major fundraisers, Champion of Children (formerly Justice is Served). During her tenure as board chair, a new auxiliary group was formed, the Dallas CASA Children’s Council, which has contributed to both increased awareness and funding for Dallas CASA.

At Jackson Walker, Ms. LaValle founded and led the firm’s women’s initiative, jw2 (Jackson Walker Women, a Formula with a Focus), which has helped to make Jackson Walker one of the top law firms in the state in promoting women to partnership. She also served as a member of the firm’s statewide Diversity Steering Committee, and is especially proud of Jackson Walker’s recognition as a 2014 recipient of the Minority Corporate Counsel Association’s Sager Award, a distinction given to only one law firm per year in each of its five regions nationally for dedication to diversity and inclusiveness.
