Jackson Walker is pleased to announce that our client Edwin Cabaniss won in the Community Impact category at the 2023 Commercial Real Estate Awards for the Longhorn Ballroom. Presented by D CEO, the annual awards recognized outstanding projects, deals, and industry players.

“We are so proud to had played a part in reestablishing this historical landmark that is an integral part of our Dallas community,” said L. Suzan Kedron, firmwide chair of our Land Use practice and JW’s Diversity & Inclusion Committee.

“We are so proud to had played a part in reestablishing this historical landmark that is an integral part of our Dallas community.”

The Longhorn Ballroom originally opened in 1950 as the Bob Wills’ Ranch House, and was eventually named Texas’ most historic music venue by Texas Monthly. The Longhorn Ballroom property includes four distinct gathering areas under one roof that can collectively host up to 2,000 guests. Also in the plans are a second building with office, retail, and restaurant space, and a two-acre outdoor area called the Longhorn Backyard that will accommodate around 5,000 people for outdoor concerts.

“The Longhorn Ballroom was a complicated project, but with the help of Suzan Kedron and her team at Jackson Walker we were able to bring this icon back,” Cabaniss said. “My family and I are simply stewards of this cultural treasure, but we hope we have put it on solid ground so others can enjoy it for another seventy-five years.”

Cabaniss purchased the project in 2021 after its previous owners’ attempt to renovate the property in 2017 ended in bankruptcy and lawsuits. In September 2022, a $4.1 million incentives package was passed by the Dallas City Council for its restoration and reopening.
