Dan Smith’s Move to Jackson Walker Named a Top 3 PTAB Lateral Move of 2023 by Patexia

Dan SmithJackson Walker is pleased to share that Patexia has listed Dallas partner Dan Smith’s move to the firm as one of the top three lateral moves of 2023 of attorneys who focus on Patent Trial and Appeal Board (PTAB) proceedings. The rankings were released as part of Patexia’s PTAB Intelligence Report covering trends, patterns, and shifts within the PTAB domain.

Dan was previously recognized by Patexia in 2022 and 2023 as one of the top 25 PTAB practitioners in the country, and by Managing IP in 2020 as a top lawyer representing petitioners at the PTAB.

Dan joined the firm on June 19, 2023, as a partner in the Intellectual Property practice. With over 13 years as an attorney under his belt, Dan has successfully represented clients in more than 130 PTAB trials to date, including several high-profile cases for leading technology companies. His PTAB experience has involved patents spanning many technical areas, including pulse oximetry, mobile device video capture, touchscreen user interfaces, wireless communications, semiconductor fabrication, and hybrid vehicle drivetrains.

With Dan’s addition, Jackson Walker’s Intellectual Property team has more than 25 attorneys focused on patents, trademarks, licensing and franchising, copyrights, trade secrets, and general intellectual property matters.

Dan is licensed in Texas, the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit, and the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office. He received his J.D. from SMU Dedman School of Law and his Bachelor’s in Computer Science from the University of Texas at Austin.
