Tom Groves and Michael Kaufman Named “Five Star Estate Planning Attorneys”

Jackson Walker partners Tom Groves and Michael Kaufman were recently named “Five Star Estate Planning Attorneys” by Five Star Professional. The list of Five Star Estate Planners will be published in the August 2014 edition of Texas Monthly.

Five Star Professional conducts market-specific research throughout the U.S. and Canada to identify service professionals who provide quality services to their clients. Award candidates are evaluated against 10 objective criteria to determine the Five Star Estate Planning Attorneys in more than 40 major markets.

Mr. Groves is the Co–Chair of the Wealth Planning, Probate and Trusts section of Jackson Walker. He practices in the Wealth Planning and Transfer, Tax and International sections and is Board Certified in Estate Planning and Probate Law by the Texas Board of Legal Specialization. He has extensive experience representing a wide variety of clients in all aspects of estate planning and estate and trust administration and has been named a “Texas Super Lawyers” by Thomson Reuters (2003, 2005, 2007, 2013). Mr. Groves received his B.A. degree from Southern Illinois University and his J.D. degree, cum laude, from Southern Methodist University School of Law, where he was a member of the Order of the Coif and Notes and Comments Editor of the Southwestern Law Journal.

Mr. Kaufman practices in the areas of estate planning and administration and charitable organizations. His practice has encompassed all areas of individual and family asset planning including design, drafting and implementation of family limited partnerships and related entities, public and private charitable entities, charitable remainder trusts, wills, insurance trusts, revocable (or “living” trusts) and other taxable and nontaxable gift transactions. His experience ranges from planning for the disposition of small simple estates through planning for management and disposition of complex estates with assets in excess of one billion dollars. Mr. Kaufman is a fellow of the American College of Trust and Estate Counsel and is Board Certified in Estate Planning and Probate by the Texas Board of Legal Specialization. He has been named a “Five Star Wealth Manager” by Five Star Professional each year from 2009-2013, as well as a “Texas Super Lawyer” by Thomson Reuters each year from 2003-2013. Mr. Kaufman received both his B.A. degree in Psychology, with honors, and his J.D. degree from the University of Texas. As an undergraduate, Mr. Kaufman was elected to Phi Beta Kappa.
