Jackson Walker announces the addition of Dan Smith as a partner in the Dallas office’s Intellectual Property practice. Dan’s practice focuses on post-grant proceedings before the Patent Trial and Appeal Board (PTAB), such as inter partes reviews (IPRs). He has successfully represented clients in more than 130 PTAB trials to date, including several high-profile cases for leading technology companies.
Dan’s PTAB experience has involved patents spanning many technical areas, including pulse oximetry, mobile device video capture, touchscreen user interfaces, wireless communications, semiconductor fabrication, and hybrid vehicle drivetrains. Dan’s particular expertise in IPR will further grow the Jackson Walker team’s experience in the area.
“Dan is an accomplished patent attorney whose IPR experience will be a great asset to our clients,” said Raman Dewan, who chairs the firm’s Intellectual Property practice. “With his addition, we will be able to expand our group’s technical skill set to further service our clients in a new capacity.”
The firm is particularly pleased to share that Dan is the first intellectual property-focused partner that Jackson Walker has added in six years. With his addition, the Intellectual Property team has 25 attorneys focused on patents, trademarks, licensing and franchising, copyrights, trade secrets, and general intellectual property matters.
On his decision to join Jackson Walker, Dan stated, “Jackson Walker has an outstanding intellectual property group with prominent experience representing tech companies in patent litigation and portfolio management. I feel that my extensive experience in IPR proceedings will further strengthen the firm’s already-formidable intellectual property practice.”
