The Texas Lawbook recently highlighted Jackson Walker’s mergers and acquisitions practice, reporting that the firm “advised in significantly more deals in 2016” than it did a year earlier. The firm was featured in the publication’s Corporate Deal Tracker for reporting 44 M&A transactions closed in 2016, a 69 percent increase from 2015.
Partner Kevin Jones explained to The Texas Lawbook that 2016 “saw a real spike in the number of carve-out transactions where we would come in and not necessarily buy an entire business, but buy a portion of the business; which is good for us, because we can sort of strategically add to an existing company.” “[It is also] good for a seller, who can take advantage of the higher valuations we’re seeing because of a frothy market, but not necessarily divest core assets.”
The article states that M&A experts believe 2017 deal flow will be just as strong as 2016, if not stronger. Activity seen by Jackson Walker in the first quarter supports the predicted trend, with the firm’s representation of clients in M&A transactions increasing in the first quarter of 2017 as compared to the first quarter of 2016, including the representation of Zachry Group in its acquisition of Ambitech Engineering Corporation. To further support and develop growth in corporate transactions, in March the firm added two seasoned corporate attorneys in San Antonio.
