Jackson Walker Wins Victory for Client Under Texas Anti-SLAPP Statute

September 9, 2015 | Client Results

Jackson Walker secured another victory under the Texas Citizens Participation Act (TCPA), the state’s anti-SLAPP statute, when a Brazos County District Court dismissed a lawsuit for malicious criminal prosecution against the Firm’s client.

Jackson Walker represented Lynne Piippo in the case, in which the plaintiff sought to recover damages allegedly stemming from a police report Ms. Piippo filed regarding the plaintiff. Ultimately, the court dismissed the suit against Ms. Piippo pursuant to the TCPA, which was adopted in 2011 to discourage retaliatory lawsuits brought against parties exercising their right to free speech.

Jackson Walker attorneys Bob Latham and Amanda Zimmerman represented Ms. Piippo.

The victory for Ms. Piippo is Jackson Walker’s most recent success under the TCPA. The firm previously obtained victories under the statute on behalf of Petroleum Newspapers of Alaska LLC, IntegraCare of Texas, LLC, the Better Business Bureau of Metropolitan Dallas, the Houston Community College System, Univision 23 KUVN, and The Burnt Orange Report, among others.
