The American Lawyer cited new research which named Jackson Walker’s Bankruptcy, Restructuring, & Recovery group as the top local debtor’s counsel in the nation so far this year.
The report by BankruptcyData and New Generation Research shows that Jackson Walker’s team has served as local debtor’s counsel a nation-leading 14 times this year, often in partnership with Kirkland & Ellis.
Their research also showed that Jackson Walker partner Matthew D. Cavenaugh was tied for the most cases as local counsel, with 15 matters.
The report analyzed filings from public and private companies that were either “particularly high-profile” or had liabilities in excess of $50 million.
A separate report by Epiq Global also said that commercial Chapter 11 filings are rebounding from below-average years in 2021 and 2022. July 2023 had 71 percent more filings than the same month in 2022, Epiq Global said.
The latest report continues the Jackson Walker team’s position at the top of the local debtor’s counsel list in BankruptcyData’s research, which also previously cited Jackson Walker as the top local counsel for bankruptcy cases filed in 2022. Matt Cavenaugh was also the most frequently-hired local counsel in their 2022 report.
