Women’s Business Enterprise Hall of Fame to Honor Retta Miller’s Commitment to Advancing Women

December 17, 2020 | Attorney News

Jackson Walker is proud to announce Retta A. Miller has been selected as an inductee of the Women’s Business Enterprise Hall of Fame. Now in its 12th year, the WBE Hall of Fame celebrates individuals and organizations with outstanding records of advocacy and support for women’s business development.

When Retta joined the Dallas office of Jackson Walker in 1985, there was only one woman partner in the trial section. In her 35 years at the Firm, she has established a successful practice representing clients in civil litigation, arbitration, and appeals, and became the second woman to be named an equity partner. She has also been an instrumental voice in advocating for fellow women attorneys within the Firm as the chair of the Trial & Appellate Litigation practice, a member of the Management Committee, and the first woman to serve on the Compensation Committee.

For the nearly 10 years Retta served as chair, the practice saw an increase in the number of women and was recognized in 2017 as the “Litigation Department of the Year” by Texas Lawyer. As a member of the Management and Compensation committees, Retta led the effort to promote more women to partnership and helped set up the Firm’s initial Alternative Work Schedule Program to support and retain young attorneys as they balanced family responsibilities with work demands.

While she has made a lasting impact on Jackson Walker, Retta’s most inspirational work comes from her passion for helping women and girls achieve their full potential. Through her involvement with the Women’s Business Council – Southwest as an Ex-Officio Board Member, the Firm has proudly supported WBCS as a corporate partner and has provided pro bono legal services in areas such as real estate, labor and employment, and corporate law. In addition to coordinating the Firm’s support, she has spoken at events focused on helping female entrepreneurs be successful, and currently represents a number of women-owned businesses.

Outside of championing WBCS’s mission to support women-owned businesses, Retta founded and chaired the Dallas Regional Chamber’s Women’s Business Conference, for which Jackson Walker serves as the presenting sponsor, and has dedicated her time as a board member of Susan G. Komen Dallas County, Dallas Women’s Foundation, and YWCA.

Her promotion and advocacy of women has been recognized by her receipt of the Dallas Regional Chamber’s ATHENA Award in 2003, Women’s Enterprise’s Woman of Excellence Award, and the Dallas Women’s Foundation’s Maura Women Helping Women Award in 2014.

To view the virtual induction ceremony held at 6 p.m. on Wednesday, March 10, 2021, visit the WBE Hall of Fame website. Information regarding online access to the event will be made available in January 2021.
