Jackson Walker congratulates Barclay Berdan, CEO of Texas Health Resources, on receiving the Susan Halsey Executive Leadership Award during the Fort Worth Chamber of Commerce’s Annual Meeting on June 24, 2021.
Before her passing in 2014, Susan Halsey earned a reputation as one of the best real estate attorneys in the business and a beacon in the Fort Worth community. In addition to helping establish the Real Estate Council of Greater Fort Worth, Susan took an active part in the community as Chair of the Fort Worth Chamber of Commerce, President of Greater Fort Worth Commercial Real Estate Women, Director for The Fort Worth Business Assistance Center, and the advisory councils for Texas C-Bar (Community Building With Attorney Resources) and The Women’s Business Center.
In honor of her memory, Jackson Walker established the Susan Halsey Executive Leadership Award, which is presented each year at the Fort Worth Chamber’s Annual Meeting to a member of the community who demonstrates leadership excellence in business in the Fort Worth metropolitan area. This year, Fort Worth partner Joel Heydenburk had the distinct honor of presenting the award to Barclay Berdan, CEO of Texas Health Resources.
While presenting the award, Joel said, “Susan was one of the best real estate lawyers in the state and contributed greatly to this community she loved. This award recognizes qualities that Susan embodied – insight, discernment, and the ability to inspire – qualities which strengthen and transform organizations. In a year filled with many challenges brought on by the pandemic, Barclay has been steadfast in leading Texas Health Resources’ 24,000 employees. We congratulate and celebrate him and all that Texas Health Resources does for the Fort Worth community.”
“Susan was in every respect Jackson Walker, and her impact on the Firm continues to this very day,” said Office Managing Partner William R. Jenkins. “Beyond representing some of the largest firms in the Dallas-Fort Worth real estate market, Susan made a conscious effort to give back to the community. We couldn’t be more proud to sponsor this annual award in her memory.”
Upon the establishment of the award in 2016, Firmwide Managing Partner Wade Cooper said, “Susan was undaunted by the stereotypes and she overcame all of those historical challenges in a very positive way.”
