Jackson Walker attorneys Stacy Allen and Emilio Nicolas will speak at the State Bar of Texas’ Annual Meeting on June 21, 2013, in Austin, Texas.
Mr. Allen and Mr. Nicolas will co-present “Hot Topics in Video Game Law.” Topics covered will include game cloning, copyright infringement, the right of publicity, and rights clearance issues, to name a few.
The two-day event provides legal professionals an opportunity to hear from keynote speakers from all over the nation.
Mr. Allen’s aggressive approach to discovery and trial preparation has resulted in favorable judgments and settlements for a wide array of sophisticated commercial clients. His national practice emphasizes intellectual property litigation (on behalf of both alleged infringers and IP owners), defense of media companies and news organizations against defamation and privacy tort claims, defense of managed care companies in claims arising from complex provider contracts, and other commercial lawsuits and arbitrations alleging breach of contract, unfair trade practices, fraud, and other business torts. His cases often involve claims in the tens of millions of dollars or more and include class actions and federal MDL proceedings. Mr. Allen works closely with clients to identify their business goals and develop strategies aimed at achieving those goals, not merely some abstract litigation “result.” Since most high-exposure cases are now resolved through mediation, Mr. Allen places a priority on developing and exploiting favorable evidence early to create leverage and achieve cost-effective and advantageous settlements. Mr. Allen received his B.A., summa cum laude, from the University of Southern California and his J.D. from Yale Law School.
Mr. Nicolas represents and counsels a variety of domestic and international clients on matters involving entertainment, media, and intellectual property. His practice includes intellectual property and general commercial litigation, entertainment and media transactions, and intellectual property rights management. Mr. Nicolas has litigated civil claims in state and federal courts involving copyright, trademark, right of publicity, defamation, and restraint of trade. He has also handled inter-party and ex parte trademark proceedings before the United States Patent and Trademark Office. Mr. Nicolas received his B.S. in Business Administration (Finance and Marketing concentrations) from Trinity University, his M.S. in Media Management from Syracuse University, and his J.D., magna cum laude, from Syracuse University College of Law. Mr. Nicolas has been named a “Rising Star” by Thomson Reuters and is a frequent author and speaker on such topics as copyright law, trademark law, and the right of publicity.
