The settlement involved the resolution of a federal qui tam suit where the defendant paid $21,750,000.00 in damages, plus $1,800,000.00 in attorneys' fees. The Relators received 27.5 percent of the settlement amount, plus the attorneys' fees award. To compile "Big Money Wins," The National Law Journal ranked the cases by the dollar amount of the jury verdict award or settlement. Monte has extensive bench and jury trial experience in both federal and state courts, including more than 20 jury trials. The vast majority of his practice has been representing defendants in litigation matters. Additionally, Monte has represented a number of corporate clients as plaintiffs in commercial cases and has also successfully arbitrated a number of cases for corporate clients to final arbitration awards and confirmed judgments. He is board certified in both Civil Trial Law and Personal Injury Trial Law by the Texas Board of Legal Specialization. He is a Fellow of the Litigation Counsel of America. Mr. James received his B.B.A. from Baylor University and his J.D. from Baylor University School of Law. Joshua represents both plaintiffs and defendants in state and federal courts in complex commercial litigation, bad-faith insurance claims, and qui tam and whistleblower actions. He is rated "AV Preeminent" by Martindale–Hubbell Peer Review Ratings and has been named a Super Lawyers–Rising Star by Thomson Reuters (2013-2016), an honor bestowed on less than 2.5 percent of Texas lawyers. Joshua received his B.S., cum laude, from Stephen F. Austin State University and his J.D., cum laude, from Northwestern University School of Law. After law school, he clerked for both the Texas Supreme Court and the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Fifth Circuit.
