AUSTIN, Texas — Jackson Walker has signed a lease for more than 110,000 square feet at The Republic, the landmark office tower located at 401 W. 4th Street in downtown Austin. The firm will occupy three mid-rise floors and plans to relocate to the new space in spring 2028.
The Republic combines award-winning design, sweeping views of Lady Bird Lake, and a direct connection to Republic Square Park. Each office floor includes a private terrace that extends the workplace outdoors, along with access to signature building amenities.
“This move represents an exciting next chapter for our Austin office and the attorneys and business professionals who have helped Jackson Walker grow alongside this city,” said Michelle Moore Smith, managing partner of Jackson Walker’s Austin office. “The Republic gives our team a modern, collaborative workplace in the heart of downtown Austin that will enhance how we serve clients, support our people, and strengthen the relationships that have long been central to our success in Austin.”

Co-developed by DivcoWest, Lincoln Property Company (“Lincoln”), and Phoenix Property Company, The Republic was recently named Project of the Year by the Austin Business Journal for its award-winning design and future-ready workplace experience.
“Austin ranked first for job growth among the nation’s largest metros last year, and The Republic gives companies the location and amenities they need to compete for top talent,” said Seth Johnston, executive vice president at Lincoln.
Jackson Walker has deep roots in Austin. In 1939, the Austin firm Small & Arney was established and later evolved into Small, Craig & Werkenthin. Firmwide managing partner Wade Cooper moved to Austin in 1997 to establish Jackson Walker’s Austin office. In 2000, Jackson Walker joined with Small, Craig & Werkenthin, further strengthening the firm’s ties to the city. Since then, the Austin office has expanded with the region, serving clients across industries while remaining closely connected to the business and cultural life of Central Texas.
“Jackson Walker’s investment in Austin has always been about building for the long term with our clients, our people, and a market that continues to distinguish itself as one of the most dynamic business centers in the country,” said Wade. “The Republic reflects the future of Austin: connected, collaborative, and forward-looking. It gives us the space and setting to support our next chapter and deepen our commitment to the city.”
By establishing its next Austin home at The Republic, Jackson Walker will bring its attorneys into one of downtown’s most visible new office developments, reinforcing the firm’s commitment to our clients, colleagues, and the future of a city that has been central to the firm’s growth and identity for decades.
