Jackson Walker welcomes Adam Aston as senior counsel in the firm’s Austin office. Along with the recent additions of Kent Sullivan, Sean Jordan, and Bill Powers, Adam further expands Jackson Walker’s government relations, special investigations, appellate, and commercial litigation practices.

Having served as the Deputy General Counsel to the Governor and Principal Deputy Solicitor General in the Texas Attorney General’s Office during his 12 years in government service, Adam brings a unique understanding of governmental procedures and processes that will prove to be priceless for our clients who are conducting private investigations or are the subject of regulatory or government agency investigations.

In recent months, Jackson Walker’s addition of several high-profile attorneys including Sullivan, former First Assistant Attorney General of Texas and Texas Court of Appeals justice, Jordan, former Principal Deputy Solicitor General in the Office of the Solicitor General of Texas, and Powers, former President of The University of Texas at Austin, Dean of The University of Texas School of Law, and chair of the committee investigating Enron which created the “Powers Report” has  greatly expanded the capabilities of Jackson Walker’s governmental relations and special investigation groups. Each member of the expanded team has a deep understanding of state government and its inner-workings, a tremendous benefit for clients who need problem-solvers for their government relations and investigations matters.

“We are thrilled to have Adam join our team,” said Sullivan, co-chair of the Firm’s Appellate group. “His background further enhances our group and adds more capabilities to provide value for our clients in the areas of government relations, special investigations, appellate, and commercial litigation.”

With the combined assets of Jackson Walker’s Government Relations, Litigation, Corporate and Securities, Healthcare, and Environmental practice groups, Jackson Walker stands poised to meet the growing need for special investigations in the corporate arena and for defense of virtually any category of government-initiated investigation.

While working as Deputy General Counsel, Adam provided legal counsel to the Governor and senior staff, focusing on issues related to education, state affairs, constitutional law and the judiciary, environmental regulations, and elections. While in law school, Adam served as a law clerk to Senator John Cornyn, Chairman of the Judiciary Subcommittee on The Constitution, Civil Rights, and Property Rights.

“I was attracted to Jackson Walker because of the firm’s long-history and reputation as a go-to firm for litigation,” Adam said. “The opportunity to practice alongside Kent, Sean, and Bill is one that I am extremely excited about. I look forward to helping further grow our appellate, government relations, and special investigations practices.”

Jackson Walker’s Litigation group is one of the largest in the Southwest, encompassing nearly half of the firm’s 360+ lawyers. The firm has offices in all four federal judicial districts in Texas and has handled litigation matters in 49 states. In 2013, the group was named the “Litigation Department of the Year” by Texas Lawyer in the magazine’s first-ever awards recognizing the top trial groups in the state. Partners in the Litigation practice average 25 years of courtroom experience and include six attorneys in the American College of Trial Lawyers and dozens ranked in Chambers, Best Lawyers, and Super Lawyers as well as other statewide and local top-lawyer directories.

Firmwide, a significant number of high-profile attorneys have made the move to Jackson Walker in the last two years, many of whom served in key leadership roles at their previous firms.
