Jonathan Lass and Federal Judges Discuss Ethics of e-Discovery at the UT School of Law’s 28th Annual Technology Conference

The panel will discuss the best practices and ethical issues in handling electronic discovery during litigation. The other panelists include Judge Robert L. Pitman, Judge Xavier Rodriguez, and Judge Lee Yeakel of the U.S. District Court for the Western District of Texas and Eric J. Mayer of Susman Godfrey LLP. The judges will share their philosophy concerning approaches to managing eDiscovery issues in their courts, including procedural issues, production disputes, noncooperation, noncompliance with court orders, proportionality, waiver, and use of special discovery masters.

Jonathan represents clients on corporate, technology and intellectual property transactions and complex projects. These transactions range from mergers and acquisitions to software licensing to outsourcing deals to data security issues. With both general counsel and law firm experience, Jonathan pursues a practical and problem solving approach to effectively achieving his client’s goals. Jonathan is a frequent speaker and author of technology law related topics such as e-discovery, data security, cyber security, technology transfer, and intellectual property. He recently co-authored a chapter titled “Computer Usage Policies, Records Management, and Information Governance,” in the Essentials of E-Discovery, which was published by the State Bar of Texas in 2014. Jonathan was named a “Rising Star Lawyer in Texas” for 2010, 2011, and 2012 as published by Texas Monthly. Jonathan is a Fellow of the Texas Bar Foundation and serves on the Board of the Austin Symphony Orchestra.
