Founded in 1989, the Leadership Arts Institute (LAI) is a program of the Business Council for the Arts, a nonprofit that builds business and arts partnerships to advance arts and culture in North Texas. Each year, the LAI program introduces members to speakers who are well-versed in the victories, tribulations, day-to-day management, and histories of local arts and cultural organizations. In addition, members take part in hands-on arts management through a class project.

The 2022 LAI class launched Arts & Economic Prosperity 6 (AEP6) in North Texas and continues to collect intercept surveys at art venues throughout the area. AEP6 is conducted in partnership with regional cities and Americans for the Arts.
