Ashley Withers Honored With Outstanding Director Award for Dedication to Dallas Association of Young Lawyers Following Re-Election to Board of Directors

May 7, 2019 | Attorney News

In recognition of her deep-seated commitment to service, Dallas staff attorney Ashley P. Withers was honored with the Outstanding Director Award at a Dallas Association of Young Lawyers (DAYL) reception held on December 11, 2018. The award is presented each year to one member of the Board of Directors.

While announcing Ashley as the award recipient, past DAYL President Jennifer Larson Ryback described her as a dedicated volunteer who always steps up to assist with projects and has done a lot for the organization that often goes unnoticed, all while pregnant and raising a toddler.

In the three terms she has served as a director, Ashley helped organize “What to Expect When You’re Expecting…Bar Results,” an annual program designed for recent law school graduates; an annual swearing-in ceremony at the Belo Mansion for newly licensed attorneys in the Dallas area; and “Straight Talk on Legal Employment,” a panel discussion at SMU Dedman School of Law geared toward job-seeking 3Ls. In addition, she moderated a panel discussion on “Thoughts from Hiring Decision Makers,” served as Board Liaison to the DAYL’s Law Student Assistance Committee and Lawyers in Transition Committee, and participated in signature events, including the Freedom Run, Charity Ball, and Dinner with the Judiciary.

Outside of her role as a director, she has been involved in the Moms-In-Law special interest group, through which she meets with fellow women attorneys and discusses topics such as business development for working parents, and the Mentoring Circles of the DAYL and the Dallas Women Lawyers Association.

In late 2018, Ashley was elected to serve a third term on the Board of Directors of the DAYL. With the election of Ashley and nine other women attorneys, 2019 marks the first time that members have elected an all-female Board of Directors.

Comprising about 3,000 attorneys, the DAYL is the only bar organization in Dallas dedicated solely to the needs of young lawyers and the community service projects that they find meaningful. By volunteering their time and skills to host around 150 projects every year, DAYL members make and benefit from countless contributions to their profession and their community.
