About Our Antitrust Team
Over the past century, antitrust law has exerted an ever-increasing influence on critical aspects of corporate and commercial strategy. Successful representation requires not only a keen understanding of antitrust laws, but a unique combination of business acumen and litigation experience. At Jackson Walker, we offer both litigation and advisory services regarding antitrust matters to businesses of all sizes across a variety of industries.
Drawing on the skills and experience of attorneys in our Corporate & Securities, White Collar Defense, and Intellectual Property practice areas, the Antitrust group boasts a proven track record of success. Recent highlights include:
- Edwin Buffmire leads the Jackson Walker team serving as lead trial counsel for Allied Orion Holdings, Crow Holdings, and Trammell Crow Residential Corp. in nationwide antitrust class actions, in which renters allege that property owners or managers worked with RealPage, Inc. to artificially inflate rental costs by fixing prices.
- Tré Fischer and the team’s critical leadership role in the joint defense group for Vistra Energy and Dynegy in the last remaining cases of numerous individual and putative class action cases filed in multiple states alleging the defendant natural gas trading companies engaged in a conspiracy to manipulate natural gas and electricity markets through alleged “wash sales,” “Churning,” false reporting, and other improper natural gas trading practices between 2000 and 2002. We continue to represent Dynegy and are awaiting the Seventh Circuit’s class decision, with proceedings stayed in the trial court.
- Edwin Buffmire and Elizabeth Pittman represent Renegade Insurance in a case in the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Texas alleging naming violations of state and federal antitrust claims.
The firm is proud of the Antitrust team’s recognition along with first-time rankings in the areas of immigration, intellectual property, government relations, public finance, and white-collar litigation.
