Jackson Walker has maintained a steady presence in Globalaw under the leadership of Dallas partner Bryan C. Birkeland, past president of Globalaw and member of its executive committee. In 2014, Jackson Walker was named “Firm of the Year for the Americas” by Globalaw and hosted the organization’s first-ever Managing Partner Forum, which drew managing partners from a number of states in the U.S. and provinces in Canada. Also, in 2018, our Dallas office hosted the Globalaw Annual Members Meeting (GLAMM), a four-day event that saw an attendance of nearly 100 law firms, including over 85 international firms.
Recently, Bryan Birkeland and Manny Schoenhuber represented Jackson Walker at the Globalaw EMEA regional meeting held May 19-21, 2022, in Luxembourg. During the meeting, Bryan and Manny met with fellow participants from member firms to discuss business development initiatives within the network. Manny also attended two sessions dedicated to the Globalaw Leadership Program—a one-year business development and leadership program for attorneys at Globalaw member firms—as Jackson Walker’s participant for 2022.
“For the past 28 years, we have proudly invested in and helped expand the Globalaw network so that our Firm and other law firms from around the world can collaborate and grow together,” Bryan said. “The Globalaw European regional meeting was a great opportunity to meet with fellow member firms, learn about new opportunities, and introduce the network to Manny Schoenhuber, who will participate in the next Globalaw Leadership Program.”
Bryan has been instrumental to the Firm’s involvement with Globalaw as a founding member of the organization. Since Globalaw’s inception in 1994, he has served as president, vice president, a member of the executive committee, and chairman of the membership and nominating committees. In his practice at Jackson Walker, Bryan focuses on real estate, international, and energy matters, particularly related to U.S. inbound and outbound investments. Bryan’s engagement by Texas, national, and international clients has spanned development, redevelopment, purchases, and sales of various real estate and energy product types, and voluntary and involuntary restructuring and rearrangement of distressed assets. Engagements have related to assets throughout the United States, Canada, Mexico, Latin America, Europe and Asia.
The Firm proudly welcomed Manny as a Houston litigation associate in February 2022. A native German, Manny works closely with European companies and their subsidiaries in Texas, and European investors in the U.S. His practice focuses on market entry, contract negotiations and drafting, litigation, and dispute resolution. Manny also acts as outside general counsel to his European clients. Manny is an active member of the American Council on Germany (ACG), the European American Chamber of Commerce Texas (EACC Texas), the German-American Chamber of Commerce of the Southern U.S. (GACC South), the German-American Lawyers’ Association (DAJV), and the Danish American Chamber of Commerce Southwest (DACCSW).
As a participant of the 2022 Globalaw Leadership Program, Manny joins fellow future Globalaw leaders in learning about the organization, gaining leadership experience, and engaging in collaborative exercises to discover best practices for representing clients in complex, multi-jurisdictional matters. In addition to sessions held during the Globalaw EMEA regional meeting, Manny will participate in six other sessions held throughout the year, including an in-person session held at the Globalaw Annual Members Meeting in Boston in September 2022.
