Jackson Walker Advises Kamada in Acquiring FDA-Licensed Plasma Collection Center

March 8, 2021 | Client Results

Jackson Walker advised Kamada Ltd. in acquiring the assets of Blood and Plasma Research, Inc. (B&PR), an FDA-licensed plasma collection center focused on collecting hyperimmune plasma, through its subsidiary Kamada Plasma LLC.

Founded in Israel in 1990, Kamada Ltd. concentrates on plasma-derived protein therapeutics for orphan indications, and has a commercial product portfolio and a robust late-stage product pipeline.

Located in Beaumont, Texas, the B&PR collection facility primarily specialized in the collection of hyper-immune plasma used for the Anti-D immunoglobulin, which is manufactured by Kamada and distributed in international markets. B&PR is one of only a few collection centers in the United States that provide the raw material needed to make these products.

With the acquisition, Kamada enters the U.S. plasma collection market and advances its strategic goal to become a fully integrated specialty plasma company.

Kamada CEO Amir London said in a company statement, “We plan to significantly expand our hyperimmune plasma collection capacity by investing in B&PR’s center at Beaumont, Texas, and leveraging its FDA license to open additional centers in the U.S.”

Marisela Peña Gonzalez, who co-led Jackson Walker’s team with Virginia Alverson Mimmack, said, “We are honored to have helped Kamada navigate this sale and bring this acquisition to a close.”

In addition to Marisela Gonzalez and Virginia Mimmack, the Jackson Walker team also included Jamila Brinson, Chuck Campbell, Jeff Drummond, John Ransom, Pete Wahl, Alyca Riley Garrison, Ebony Harris, Taylor McDowell, and Eve Searls.
